Trey Allen gets win No.1 as the Navasota football team beats Royal

NAVASOTA -- It was a night of firsts in Navasota on Friday night: first victory of the season, first home win of the year and first win as the head coach for Trey Allen, as the Rattlers (1-2) took down the Brookshire Royal Falcons (1-2), 49-8 at Rattler Stadium.

Sophomore Jace Joblanski finished with a 273-yards performance that started with a bang as he found Da'Quann Pratt on Navasota's second drive of the game for an 81-yard score.

The quick score with four minutes and thirty-seven seconds left in the first quarter gave the Rattlers a lead that they would not be relinquished for the rest of the night. Pratt finished with two receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown.

The Rattlers followed it up with a scoop n' score as after running back Artavian Rutherford had the ball punched out, Valentin Castaneda was in the right place to pick it up and run into the end zone.

Navasota's special teams made an impact as well, as the Rattlers blocked a punt, where Jarrad Isaiah scooped it up and ran it down to the four. Joblanski ran it in three plays later to take a 21-0 lead.

The Rattlers capped their first half scoring with two rushing touchdowns. The first was a two yard score by sophomore Cam Burrell. Navasota got the ball back with a short field and Rutherford found the end zone on an 18-yard scamper.

After Royal found the end zone, Navasota responded, putting together a 7-play, 65-yard drive that took one minute and thirty four seconds off the clock. It featured a steady dose of Rutherford with three carries over nine yards on the drive and was capped off with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Joblanski to Isaiah.

The final score came from the defense as Cayden McGinty stepped in front of a pass to return it 20-yards for a touchdown.

Navasota will return to Rattler Stadium at 7 p.m. next Friday as they host Waco High.
