RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Richmond Police Department is investigating a traffic accident Sunday evening that severely injured a bicyclist.
About 5:47 p.m. in the 300 block of National Road West, a 61-year-old bicyclist whose name whose name has not been released was attempting to cross the road when a westbound SUV driven by an unnamed 80-year-old male collided with him.
The bicyclist was taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, for urgent medical treatment while the driver remained and cooperated with investigators.
"We urge pedestrians and bicyclists to cross streets at designated crosswalks and well-lit intersections whenever possible," RPD Chief Kyle Weatherly said in the release. "Bicyclists should also equip their bikes with proper lighting and reflectors to enhance visibility in low-light areas."
