ZANESVILLE - A Zanesville home was destroyed in an early morning fire.
The Zanesville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 233 Sullivan St. around 5 a.m. on Dec. 16. The structure fire was fully involved, noted Zanesville Fire Chief Jeff Bell. Thirteen first-wave firefighters went on the defensive upon their arrival, but no entry was made, he added.
Upon the initial investigation, it appears the fire was accidental and caused by a space heater, according to Bell. The structure was dismantled later in the morning.
All residents were believed to be safe and no injuries were noted, said Bell.
The Sullivan Street house is owned by Joshua Newton of Zanesville, according to the Muskingum County Auditor's Office website. The TR has reached out to Newton.
The Zanesville Fire Department responded with 3 engines and one ladder truck. The first response team was later relieved by a second wave of personnel around 7 a.m.
Bell noted the lack of fire detectors at the house and also implored residents to ensure that supplemental heating sources are being used properly and have enough space. "Make yourself as safe as you can during the holiday season," he said.
