Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy arrested on domestic assault charge in Texas

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver was arrested for assault on Friday night, according to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office jail record.

The 21-year-old Worthy was charged with "ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT," which is a third-degree felony assault charge that "is committed by intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person's throat or neck or by blocking the person's nose or mouth."

The offense is punishable with a sentence of two to 10 years of jail time and/or a fine not to exceed $10,000.

"We are aware and gathering information", the Chiefs said in a statement Saturday morning.

The Chiefs drafted Worthy out of the University of Texas with their first-round draft pick in 2024. He caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns during his rookie NFL season.

This is the second straight offseason that a Chiefs player has found himself in legal trouble. In April 2024, wide receiver Rashee Rice was arrested for his involvement in a multi-car crash while racing a Lamborghini in northeast Dallas. He was also suspected of assaulting a photographer at a Dallas nightclub in May. However, Dallas police confirmed that the accuser signed "an affidavit of non-prosecution" and chose not to pursue charges.
