Thomasville man wins $230,858 lottery jackpot after buying $1 ticket at convenience store

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) -- Nelson Edwards, of Thomasville, bought a $1 Cash 5 ticket on Tuesday and won a $230,858 jackpot, according to an NC Education Lottery news release.

Edwards bought his winning Quick Pick ticket from Speed Mart on Hasty School Road in Thomasville.

His ticket matched all five numbers in the drawing to win the jackpot.

The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Wednesday.

After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $165,064.
