PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Law enforcement officials are releasing more details surrounding a SWAT standoff in Vancouver last month that resulted in an officer shooting and killing a suspect.
Authorities identified 28-year-old Vancouver Police Officer Cameron McAnally as the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT Team member who killed the suspect as part of the sniper team.
According to the investigation into the Sept. 27 shooting, McAnally took the single shot when the suspect was at the rear door of his home, armed with a rifle and "appeared to be targeting other law enforcement officers," the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office said in a release.
McAnally shot the suspect, 56-year-old Michael D. Williams, in the neck, killing him.
"Officer McAnally stated he feared Williams posed an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury to the officers at this time," the sheriff's office said.
The Vancouver Police Department also released video footage from the incident, including body-cam footage from officers and drone footage showing the inside of Williams' home after he was shot.
The fatal shot happened after Williams had allegedly fired multiple shots in the direction of other officers "and neighboring residences from an upstairs window and from the front door area of his residence."
"Attempts to de-escalate were unsuccessful," officials said.
At one point, investigators with the Lower Columbia Major Crimes Team said Williams even made a direct hit to an armored vehicle, compromising its anti-ballistic windshield, and "endangering the lives of the six law enforcement officers inside."
Investigators said they believe the gun Williams used to shoot at the armored vehicle was an HM Defense model HM50B.50 caliber rifle, one of several firearms law enforcement said they recovered from his residence.
The footage released by Vancouver police showed body-cam video of officers inside the armored vehicle when the windshield cracked. It also showed drone footage from inside Williams' home showing several of the weapons law enforcement said they later recovered, including the high-caliber rifle set up on a table and pointed out a window.
Investigators said an adjacent home was hit by a bullet during the incident.
Officials released other details about the incident, including that Williams "reportedly made numerous derogatory statements towards neighbors regarding their ethnicities and slashed the tires of a neighbor's vehicle."
Williams also allegedly fired multiple shots before law enforcement arrived and appeared intoxicated, according to interviews with neighbors. A deputy who spoke with Willaims over the phone during the standoff also described his speech as "being slurred," officials said.
