Now and then, we come across discoveries that rock the core of our beliefs. They might come in the form of medical breakthroughs or scientific anomalies. More often than not, these discoveries take a while to prove or disprove... or even believe.
According to various sources including Ancient Origins, a site exploring various mythology and artifacts, a shocking discovery was made near Nampa in 1889.
The discovery was reportedly made when workers searched for water by drilling hundreds of feet. Apparently, amidst the drilling, different bits of debris began flying out of the hole. At 295 feet, clay began spouting out and when the workers got to a depth of 320 feet, workers noticed an unusually shaped piece of clay come out of the hole according to an issue of the Pleistocene Coalition News.
This particular piece of hard clay was shaped like a figurine in the shape of a woman covered by cloth.
Here's where it gets strange - this "figurine" was estimated to be around 2 million years.
There is still some debate as to when humans first existed with many estimating humans first appeared between 2 million and 6 million years ago on the continent of Africa according to the Museum of Natural History.
A recent study from the University of Oregon, however, estimates that the first humans in the Americas were a lot later than that.
Jon Erlandson, archaeologist, and director of the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History said of their findings:
It is now more likely that humans moved into North America between 20,000 and 16,000 years ago, with colder climates and extensive winter sea ice.
Something's not right!
There is great debate as to what the true origin of this figurine is. Many believe there were no humans with the ability to craft such a figurine at that time while others question human involvement altogether.
According to the Pleistocene Coalition News, "the oldest recorded fired clay items date to 6,000 to 10,000 years ago."
Is it possible that the figurine is of ancient alien origin? Or, is it possible that the entire thing is a hoax?
We conducted a thorough search to find a proper image of the figurine that we could use in this article but didn't have any luck. But, we did come across this viral post showing the image that you can check out below.
