Health systems are planning new facilities to increase access to oncology and pediatric services, as well as to combine current facilities.
Becker's has reported on the following hospital construction projects costing $1 billion or more since June 20.
1. Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center: $1.68 billion
Dana-Farber and Beth Israel received approval from the Boston Planning Department to develop the cancer hospital, which will feature 300 inpatient beds.
The Joslin Diabetes Center will be demolished to construct the new facility.
2. Dallas-based Children's Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center: $5 billion
The pediatric hospital campus will replace the current Children's Medical Center Dallas campus and will include two towers with a total of 552 beds.
It will also feature a level 1 pediatric trauma center and a fetal care center.
3. Atlanta-based Arthur M. Blank Hospital: $1.5 billion
Patients and services were transitioned to the new hospital from Egleston Hospital in Atlanta on Sept. 29. The 2 million-square-foot hospital includes 446 beds.
The transition followed two years of planning, with the new hospital's level 1 pediatric trauma center opening the same day.
4. Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health: $2.3 billion
The hospital is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2027. The 2 million-square-foot hospital will combine IU Health Methodist and University hospitals.
It will have 864 beds and three clinical institutes: cancer, cardiovascular and neuroscience.
