The New York Giants entered their matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles knowing full well that to have a shot at the favored foe, they'd need to get a stellar effort from Daniel Jones and from the offensive line in front of him.
Neither of those things happened against their NFC East rival as Giants got buried 28-3 at MetLife stadium on NFL Week 7 Sunday.
The Giants, who are now 0-4 at home, eventually chose to pull to the bench Jones, who completed just 14-of-21 passes for 99 yards and was part of Philly's seven-sack barrage.
Head coach Brian Daboll benched him - or, again, "pulled him to the bench'' - with 11:26 remaining in the fourth quarter. And why? To "create a spark,'' the coach said, with the insertion of Jones' backup quarterback, Drew Lock.
Needless to say, Lock - who the Giants signed in free agency this offseason - did not provide any such thing. And so now comes the question of who plays QB going forward.
And Daboll revealed a firm answer about Jones' status from here on out.
"Daniel is the quarterback moving forward," Daboll said of his $40 million per year QB.
Lock completed 3-of-8 passes for six yards, with a fumble.
"Just not a good day all around,'' Daboll said as his team fell to 2-5. "No excuses. Gotta play better and coach better.''
