JonBenét Ramsey's Father Receives Chilling Letter From Woman Naming Her Ex-Husband As Daughter's Killer: 'I've Kept This Inside As Long As I Can'

Amid the release of the explosive Netflix documentary about the decades-old cold case of JonBenét Ramsey, her father, John Ramsey, has received a chilling letter from a woman naming her ex-husband as his daughter's killer.

While speaking with the Daily Mail, JonBenét Ramsey's father claimed that in the wake of Netflix's November-released documentary, 'Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey,' he received a shocking letter from a woman claiming her ex-husband murdered his daughter.

Ramsey said he immediately looked into the tip but has not yet heard back from the sender. On Tuesday (December 17), nine days before the 28th anniversary of JonBenét Ramsey's murder, her father told Daily Mail, "Based on all this publicity, recently I got a letter from a lady saying, 'My ex-husband's the killer, and I've kept this inside for as long as I can - please, please call me.'" Ramsey added, "We reached out to her, but she didn't answer the phone, so I don't know. We've shared at this point with a private investigator."

At six years old, JonBenét Patricia Ramsey was an established child beauty queen, winning several titles before her death in 1996. In addition to her beauty pageant photos being widely recognizable, her death would soon gain national attention as well. She was found brutally beaten and sexually assaulted on December 26, 1996, in the basement of her family's large home in Boulder, Colorado.

Early that morning, JonBenét's mother, Patricia "Patsy" Ramsey, called 911 after finding a ransom note and her daughter missing. Police rushed to the family's home, but JonBenét's body was not found until hours later during a search led by her father.

After finding her body in the basement, suspicion rose quickly with Boulder Police Department officials honing in on the family, which resulted in a strained relationship with all parties; something that Netflix's documentary covers. JonBenét's father, her mother, who passed in 2006 at 49, and her brother Burke Ramsey, who was 9 and at home during her murder, were all suspected of her murder. However, the Boulder Police Department officially cleared them all and apologized in 2008.

For decades, JonBenét Ramsey's father has been demanding answers from the Boulder Police Department, urging them to reinvestigate her case with the latest advanced DNA techniques and genealogical databases. He's also cited the successes of other cold cases reinvestigated and closed with new technologies, like in the 2018 Golden State Killer case.

In his interview with Daily Mail, JonBenét Ramsey's father said that he and his family are still hopeful to learn of any new leads in the murder of his daughter as he's been fighting off misconceptions and trying to prove his family's innocence for nearly 30 years. He also said that solving his daughter's murder "is not going to change my life at this point. I just turned 81. But it'll change my children's lives and my grandchildren's lives. They need to have this cloud removed, clarified, and an answer. That's why we're pushing so hard to get an answer."

While speaking on the chilling letter that he received from the woman claiming her ex-husband was his daughter's killer, JonBenét Ramsey's father said he still remains skeptical as he's been let down in the past with other leads and tips. Elsewhere, due to the increased attention on the JonBenét Ramsey investigation, the Boulder Police Department released its annual update on her murder one month early.

In a November 26 post on X, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn in part said, "The killing of JonBenét was an unspeakable crime and this tragedy has never left our hearts. We are committed to following up on every lead and we are continuing to work with DNA experts and our law enforcement partners around the country until this tragic case is solved. This investigation will always be a priority for the Boulder Police Department. The assertion that there is viable evidence and leads we are not pursuing, including DNA testing, is completely false. Additionally, it was the Boulder Police Department, not the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, who convened the Cold Case Review Panel in December 2023 as part of its investigation efforts."
