Juan Soto injury update: Latest news on New York Yankees superstar

New York Yankees star Juan Soto had fans holding their breath for a moment during Wednesday night's walk-off win over the Kansas City Royals.

During the bottom of the sixth inning, down 1-0 against Royals starter Cory Ragans, Soto fouled a pitch off his right ankle/foot.

Soto was in visible pain after the ball struck directly underneath his shin guard. The 25-year-old remained in the game, however.

In his true Generational fashion, Soto stayed in the game and gave the Yankees the exact jolt they needed.

Two pitches later, Soto launched a hanging breaking ball deep to right field to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.

Soto remained in the game for the remainder of the contest. It was encouraging to see him stay in the game even after being in visible pain.

After the game, Soto told reporters it was "really painful" to foul the ball off his foot and that it was still hurting when he hit the home run.

He also mentioned that his foot feels better, and there was no update from manager Aaron Boone after the game.

"You really get mad when you hit yourself. It's just the way it goes. I'm not mad at the pitcher or anything. Just mad at myself, but when you come through like that, it just feels a little relief," Soto said.

It's certainly encouraging that Soto hit a home run immediately after fouling the ball off his foot, but gauging that injury can be tough sometimes with adrenaline pumping.

The fact that he stayed in the game for its entirety likely signals all is well with the superstar.

After completing the series win with a Jazz Chisholm walk-off Wednesday night, the Yankees are back at home to host the Boston Red Sox.
