If you're a fan of holiday romantic comedies like those Hallmark is known for this time of year, there's a new one out for this year that is set in the Badger State to check out!
The new film, titled "A '90s Christmas", recently made its debut - joining the likes of other recent movies like "Merry Kiss Cam" and "Rescuing Christmas" as holiday movies set in the Upper Midwest.
This new Hallmark holiday movie is about a workaholic lawyer named Lucy, who finds herself celebrating a big work promotion alone on Christmas Eve. During a mysterious rideshare experience, she is transported back to 1999 to her family's home in Milwaukee.
On her trip back in time, Lucy relives the holiday season that year with her mom, sister, best friend, and (of course) her high school crush Matt.
As Hallmark puts it in their description, "Will this magical journey help her rewrite her future or leave her destined to be alone?"
The main character, Lucy, is played by Eva Bourne. Some of her other recent credits include the movie "Make Me a Match", and TV series "Devil in Ohio" and "One Upon a Time".
Her love interest, Matt, is played by Chandler Massey. Massey has done a handful of other Christmas films and played the role of Will on the soap opera Day of Our Lives.
The other top-billed actors are Katherine Barrell and Alex Hook, who play Grace (Lucy's rideshare driver) and Alexa (Lucy's sister).
It isn't unheard of for a movie or TV show to be set somewhere, but it is actually filmed elsewhere.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, there are plenty of generic Milwaukee and Wisconsin references, but not much in the way of specifics. There are also some fictitious things like a fake Milwaukee newspaper (which they had fun with as a newspaper themselves) and a bridge between Chicago and Milwaukee in the film that doesn't actually exist.
While the evidence of actually being in Milwaukee is pretty thin, the Journal Sentinel does note that they do a good job of making it feel like it is really set in the 1990s.
This is a Hallmark movie, which made its world debut on November 29 on Hallmark Channel and also aired on December 11, but there are two more scheduled dates.
Those two other dates are December 21 at 11:10 am, and December 25 at 7 am.
Hallmark also has a streaming option called Halllmark+, where it is also available to stream on demand.
