Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are a bit more flush in cryptocurrency on Tuesday.
The pair defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka at The Crypto.com Showdown, claiming the $10 million prize that will be paid out in crypto. The PGA Tour duo secured the win over the LIV Golf pairing in the unique event, with the first six holes contested as best ball, the next six by alternate shots and the final six holes as singles.
"I don't know a whole lot about crypto, but this is good enough motivation to do some research," Scheffler said on TNT after winning the event.
The duo of Scheffler and McIlroy were dominant on Tuesday. They opened the four-ball match by winning by a margin of 3&2 in just four holes behind this brilliant birdie from McIlroy:
The pair then won the foursomes match on the second six holes, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the format, which meant that they would need to only tie one of the two singles matches in the final six holes to clinch the win.
Instead, McIlroy and Scheffler cut out any room for drama, as Scheffler's two-hole lead onafter the 16th with only two holes to play over Koepka guaranteed the win for the PGA Tour duo.
All in all, this wasn't a terribly close matchup:
But it was a fun format and event, and if nothing else, one that should result in Scheffler learning a bit more about cryptocurrency.
