Injuries have simply hammered the Detroit Lions this season, there's no other way to put it. Three more players (Alim McNeill, Carlton Davis and Khalil Dorsey) went on IR this week after being injured in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills. Running back David Montgomery was also injured in that game, but the outlook for him is slightly more optimistic right now.
Perhaps in some deference to the litany of injuries, but also in line with how Wednesday practices have been conducted recently, Dan Campbell declared Wednesday's practice would be a rest day for several players and it was indeed so. Thursday saw many or those rested players graduate to full participation in practice.
The Lions will look to get back on track after last week's loss, and avoid any more major injuries, Sunday on the road against the Chicago Bears.
Here is the final Week 16 injury report for the Lions.
Montgomery has not yet been placed on IR, but as expected he will miss Sunday's game.
Reeves-Maybin made as surprising return to practice, thus starting his 21-day window to come off IR, on Thursday. As also expected, with two limited practices and 19 days left in that activation window, he will not play on Sunday.
Branch was clearly dealing with some kind of injury last week against Buffalo, and it has been revealed to be a calf issue. Limited practices on Thursday and Friday suggest he is legitimately questionable for Sunday's game.
Glasgow was also banged up against the Bills. Campbell indicated he likely wouldn't practice on Friday, then reporters spotted him on the field and he was listed as limited. If Glasgow can't go on Sunday, Campbell noted Kayode Awosika and Christian Mahogany have seen practice reps at left guard this week.
Melifonwu started his 21-day activation window this week. There is no real rush to get him back on the field, with 18 days left in that window, but being listed as questionable for Sunday keeps the door open for him to suit up.
Ragnow went from a rest day on Wednesday to being listed with a back injury on Thursday. But he was a full participant in Friday's practice, and he's good to go for Sunday,
Nowaske missed last week's game with a concussion. Three full practices this week say he'll back to help out at SAM linebacker on Sunday.
