Commuters may experience some traffic disruptions downtown this week as crews conduct a survey of the city's sewer main in connection with the upcoming downtown infrastructure project.
The survey will occur on Main Street from Marlboro Street to Central Square and surrounding areas, the city announced in a recent news release. Work will begin on Tuesday and will continue into Wednesday and Thursday, if needed, city officials said in the release. Crews will work downtown each day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there could be disruptions to the flow of traffic during that time. Some parking spaces may also be blocked, the release said.
Crews will use a jetting/vacuum truck and a CCTV box truck to clean and record the town's existing sewer main ahead of the downtown infrastructure project. The project, estimated at nearly $17 million, is slated to begin in 2025. In addition to above-ground modifications, the project will replace aging pipes, some of which are more than 100 years old.
