The Portage County NAACP will host the Freedom Fund scholarship luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12.

The event will be at the NEW Center at Northeast Ohio Medical University, 4209 State Route 44 in Rootstown. The theme is "We Are 'All In' When Supporting our Community."

Students A'Niyah Christian, a ninth-grader, and Ai'Ahna Christian, a sixth-grader, will recite Sojourner Truth's speech "Ain't I A Woman" to reiterate the importance of voting, and address what is happening 173 years after her speech.

Check-in will begin at 11 a.m.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased on PayPal via the NAACP website; by visiting Key Bank branches in Brimfield, Kent, Ravenna or Streetsboro; or by scheduling a meeting with NAACP President Renee Romine at the organization's office, located at the Kent United Church of Christ.
