High Speed Car Chase Ends In Crash

It all started when police in Colchester spotted a stolen car driving in the area of Saint Michael's College. When the officer activated his lights, the car made a U-turn and went east towards Essex. This led to a pursuit which reached a maximum speed of 60 miles per hour through the areas of College Parkway, Fort Ethan Allen, and the Fanny Allen campus of UVM Medical Center.The chase continued, ending on Pearl Street in Essex Junction when the driver attempted to pull into the parking lot of the Essex Junction Shopping Center. That's when they hit another car trying to leave, dealing significant damage to both vehicles.The driver was identified as 34-year-old Shauna Francis of Burlington. Both Francis and the driver of the car she hit were brought to the hospital for life threatening injuries, while two passengers in the stolen vehicle were briefly detained before being released.Francis is currently being held pending criminal charges, and the investigation is still ongoing.
