NEW YORK (TND) -- "My doctor discovered a basal cell carcinoma, a tiny, tiny speck on my nose. You can't even see it,"New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Thursday.

Basal cell carcinoma, is considered a common type of cancer, according to Mayo Clinic.

The Democratic governor will have a procedure to have it removed on Friday. Hochul told reporters she will be back to work that same day with a bandage on her nose.

She said the diagnosis is common in her family.

She also encouraged everyone to get regular checkups.

"I encourage everyone to make sure that they do get regular checkups and follow through," Hochul said.
