Boulder County Public Health confirms no ongoing Hep A risk to public at Rio Grande restaurant

Boulder County Public Health has confirmed that there is no ongoing Hepatitis A risk to the public from the Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, at 1101 Walnut St. in Boulder, following a reported case earlier this week.

According to an earlier release, there was a single reported case of the disease which authorities later learned the individual had contracted while on vacation outside of the country.

No other Rio Grande locations have been impacted, according to the release. In the release, the department said Hepatitis A can be transmitted for up to two weeks prior to developing symptoms. Symptoms include yellow skin or eyes; dark urine or clay-colored stools; feeling tired; fever; joint pain; loss of appetite; nausea; stomach pain, or vomiting.

For those who may have been exposed, a final vaccination clinic will be held today between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Sundquist building at 3482 Broadway in Boulder, according to the release.

In the release, Boulder County Public Health said the restaurant has been "exceptionally cooperative in prioritizing the safety of both staff and patrons."

The department recommended that anyone traveling for work or vacation talk to their health care provider about what vaccines are recommended. Anyone seeking more information is encouraged by the department to contact the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment at 303-692-2700 or via email at [email protected]
