BROCKTON -- Veterans Day, observed annually on Nov. 11, is an opportunity to take an extra moment to show military members gratitude for their sacrifice and service.
The holiday honors the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces, on the anniversary of the end of World War I, more than 100 years ago, on Nov. 11, 1918.
You can honor veterans by thanking them for their service, supporting veteran businesses and charities, placing flowers and flags on graves and by watching or participating in parades.
The East Bridgewater Kiwanis Club made a Field of Flags on the Town Common, and a thousand flags were planted in the Field of Flags at Shaw's Supermarket Store Support Center in West Bridgewater to honor our country's veterans.
Brockton will honor our veterans with a parade and ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, at the War Memorial.
The 71st anniversary of the Abington, Rockland and Whitman Tri-Town Veterans Day Parade will be celebrated in Abington this year.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. at the student entrance of Beaver Brook School and proceed north on Washington Street, turning right onto Adams Street, and then right onto North Avenue (Rt. 139), ending by the Cellar Tavern.
The Tri-Town Veterans Day Commemoration for Bridgewater, East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater will be held in Bridgewater this year. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, from Park Avenue and travels to Summer Street then left at Central Square to Bedford Street to the Veterans Gazebo on Legion Field, where a ceremony will be held following the parade. The parade will be held rain or shine.
The Veterans Day parade will form at War Memorial, 156 West Elm St., at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, and start at 10 a.m. The parade route will leave from West Elm Street, south on Newbury Street, east on Belmont Street, north on Main Street, West on West Elm Street, ending at the War Memorial, where a ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. In the event of inclement weather or extreme low temperatures, the parade will be canceled, and a ceremony will be held inside the auditorium of the War Memorial Building.

Easton's Veterans Day parade will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, beginning at 10 a.m. at the post office at Washington Plaza at the corner of Main Street and Rt. 138. The parade will march up Main Street to the World War I Memorial for a salute to WWI veterans. The parade will proceed to Veterans Memorial Park for the Veterans Day ceremony. Following the ceremony, refreshments will be provided by a food truck. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall, 61 Rockland St.
The annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Halifax Town Hall, 499 Plymouth St. During this year's celebration, 70 Hometown Hero banners will be unveiled and a formal ceremony will be held.
Middleboro Veterans Day ceremony will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Town Hall Grand Ballroom, 10 Nickerson Ave.
A Veterans Council breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, with a speaker program at the Elks Lodge, 21 School St. Tickets are available at Randolph Veterans Services office and at the door. At 10:45 a.m., veterans and color guards will form up and march to Randolph War Memorial, Crawford Square. At 11 a.m., the Randolph Veterans Council will conduct a ceremony and a wreath laying at the Randolph War Memorial, Crawford Square.
