James Corden teases death of favourite Gavin and Stacey character

JAMES Corden has hinted that a major character from Gavin & Stacey may meet a tragic fate in the upcoming Christmas special.

While keeping details under wraps, James suggested that fans should prepare for unexpected twists in the beloved show's festive return.

James, 46, stars as Smithy and writes the hit comedy with co-star Ruth Jones, 57.

He has teased fans that the long-awaited festive special will include a character's funeral.

His comments has sparked speculation that much-loved Uncle Bryn will pass away.

Stacey's Uncle Bryn, played by Would I Lie To You? host Rob Brydon, 59, has been in the show since its 2007 pilot.

At The Global Gift Gala charity event in London this week, James revealed: "What we were editing today was a very moving and emotional scene at Bryn's funeral. I'm joking, I promise. Or am I?"

He previously admitted the last episode, due to be screened on Christmas Day, will be "hard to watch".

The last Gavin & Stacey episode was aired at Christmas in 2019.

Viewers are hoping for a happy ending for Nessa and Smithy as the episode was left on a cliffhanger.

The last episode saw Nessa proposed. Now, five years on, viewers will finally find out if Smithy said yes or no.

Two months ago, fans spotted the cast filming some very special scenes this week.

Ruth Jones, Julia Davis, Joanna Page, Alison Steadman and Melanie Waters were seen dressed up while shooting, sparking speculation it was for Nessa's hen do.

The bride-to-be wore a back mesh top, one of Nessa's signature belts and a red leather jacket, while Stacey opted for a more colourful look with a floral dress and denim jacket.

Alison also opted for a light floral ensemble, while Julia wore a leopard print dress and black cardi, and Melanie wore one classic brown jacket.

The cast have been spied in multiple locations in Barry, Wales, where the series is set.

When filming ended, Ruth and James addressed the cast, crew, and fans who came out to support them with a message of thanks.

She also expressed hope that they "won't be disappointed" when the special airs in December.

She told the crowd: "Thank you so much for standing here today and being so patient.

"You haven't seen anything because we've been indoors, which shows that you are truly committed fans of the show and we hope that you won't be disappointed on Christmas Day when all will be revealed.

"This is our farewell now to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won't be seeing us here anymore, but we've had a wonderful 17 years. It's been fantastic."

"Thank you very much for everything everybody. We'll see you soon," James added.
