AC Milan's defensive effort left a lot to be desired as they twice threw away a lead to draw with Cagliari, but Rafael Leao's performance was a positive.
Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) talks about a 'draw that feels like a defeat' for Milan, who led until the 89th minute before being pegged back for the second time by a goal from Zappa. Leao, however, returned to scoring for the first time in the league since August 30 against Lazio.
Against the Sardinians, the No.10 showed off all his qualities, scoring a double for the first time since 4 June 2023, when he scored two goals in the victory in the last game of the season against Hellas Verona.
Unlike his coach and team-mates, therefore, Leao continued on from his excellent performance in Madrid. He seems to have returned to doing things with great serenity, with a lightness that has always distinguished him, but above all with his smile.
He probably needed to feel like the best player on the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu to prove to himself what he is capable of, but the brace was not enough for Milan to bring home three fundamental points.
A win might have reopened the race for the Scudetto for the Rossoneri given Inter play Napoli later, but at least Fonseca can count on one more certainty: Rafa Leao.
