Precautionary boil water advisory to affect hundreds of customers in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Around 300 Cape Fear Public Utility Authority customers in Sunset Park and on Carolina Beach Road will be asked to boil their water beginning Sunday, Sept. 15.

According to CFPUA, the precautionary boil water advisory will begin at 5 p.m. to and affect customers at the following addresses:

Crews will be "replacing numerous broken valves in the drinking water distribution system."

"Customers at the addresses listed above may experience low or no water pressure the evening of Sunday, September 15 and in the early hours of Monday, September 16," CFPUA explains. "Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

"When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. Alternatively, they may use another water source such as bottled water."

CFPUA will conduct a water test to ensure it is safe to drink prior to lifting the advisory.
