Jury selection date set for former Brunswick DA linked to Ahmaud Arbery investigation

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (WSAV) -- A date for jury selection has been set for a former Brunswick District Attorney Tuesday.

Jackie Johnson was arrested in 2021 on charges related to the investigation into Ahmaud Arbery's death. Johnson faces charges of violation of oath by public officer and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Judge John Turner ordered for parties to appear Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. to hear all motions prior to the trial. Jury selection will begin Jan. 21, 2025, at 9 a.m.

"We remain fully prepared to present our case in court, and we look forward to the opportunity to do so," Kara Richardson, spokesperson for Attorney General Chris Carr. "Our goal is to secure maximum justice for Ahmaud Arbery and his family, and we have never stopped fighting for them."

Office of the Attorney General Chris Carr said the defense filed two Motions to Dismiss in March 2022, which the Attorney General's Office requested to be denied. In November 2023, a judge denied the motion.

The defendant previously waived arraignment and pleaded not guilty but requested a continuance in 2022, the Attorney General's Office said.
