USDA report shows at least 2 Indiana schools have received shipments of recalled meat products

NEW YORK (WPIX/NEXSTAR) - Nearly 200 schools across the country received shipments of ready-to-eat meat products that have been recalled over possible listeria contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

BrucePac, a producer of pre-cooked proteins, has recalled more than 11.7 million pounds of meat and poultry items that were produced from May 31, 2024, to October 8, 2024.

An extensive list provided by the USDA outlines hundreds of affected food products, from frozen dinners to pre-made salads and sandwich wraps. Some of these items have brand names like Dole, Taylor Farms, Great Value and Michelina's and were sold at popular grocers including Walmart, Trader Joe's, Target and Kroger.

On Thursday, the USDA released a preliminary list of schools that purchased some of the items that are part of the recall as well. The agency noted that these schools are not affiliated with the USDA's National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.

The schools are located in 16 states and the District of Columbia, including Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Most notably, 91 schools in Pennsylvania have been affected by the recall, currently more than any other state.

It's unclear at this time which items the schools received.

While there haven't been any reported illnesses associated with the recall to date, health officials advise consumers to throw away the recalled products or return them to their place of purchase.
