HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A hit-and-run accident on Farrington Highway left a 75-year-old woman in critical condition Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 6:47 PM at the intersection of Farrington Highway and Princess Kahanu Avenue.
According to the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division, the woman was using an Electric Mobility Device when she entered the roadway, crossing the westbound lanes.
As she moved into the eastbound lanes, she was struck by an unidentified driver traveling at a high speed.
The impact caused a second collision with a 69-year-old male motorist who was directly behind the unknown driver.
While the 75-year-old woman was ejected onto the road and rushed to a nearby hospital, the other two individuals in the second vehicle -- a 69-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman -- were not injured.
Authorities confirmed that the woman was not in a marked crosswalk when the accident occurred. The driver who fled the scene is believed to have been driving a white Chevrolet Silverado, and police are still working to identify the individual.
Speed is currently considered a possible contributing factor, although it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
