Malcolm Butler to lead special ceremony before Seahawks game, because of course

The Seattle Seahawks will have an interesting surprise in store for them during Sunday's contest against the New England Patriots.

In the Patriots' second annual Keeper of the Light pre-game ceremony, the team will send out cornerback Malcolm Butler to perform the ceremonial duties as part of the 10-year anniversary celebration of Super Bowl XLIX.

Butler, of course, broke the hearts of Seahawks fans everywhere when he intercepted Russell Wilson's goal line pass to end Seattle's hopes of winning a second consecutive Super Bowl.

"It's an honor to come back and celebrate with my teammates and the fans who have supported us throughout the years," said the former New England cornerback (via Patriots.com). "That game was a defining moment in all of our careers, and it's something we will never forget."

We can expect many other former Patriots from that game in attendance for New England's home opener:

All players and coaches from that championship season were invited to attend. While some prominent members of that 2014 team now have broadcasting obligations and are unable to attend, nearly half of the team will be in attendance. For some of the alumni returning, it will be their first time back to Foxborough in nearly a decade.

The Seahawks will face the Patriots at Foxborough's Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the teams' first matchup since Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick's respective departures.
