Mahtomedi appeared to lose quarterback Connor Finn in the contest, but leaned on its ground game and held on to advance to the section semifinals by beating Central 28-24 on Tuesday night.
The Zephyrs will meet Cretin-Derham Hall in the Class 5A, Section 4 semifinals on Saturday. Gavin Kruse had 95 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Mahtomedi (3-6).
Allan Lankfard Jr. threw for 203 yards and two scores for Central (3-6), who scored the final 12 points of the contest after falling behind 28-12.
Chisago Lakes 37, South St. Paul 35: With the game tied at 28-28 heading into the final frame, the Wildcats (4-5) recorded a safety, and Emmit Hahn rushed in a score to give Chisago Lakes a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
South St. Paul (3-6) led 20-7 at the half after a pair of field goals from Alida Ahern and two rushing scores from Sincere McCampbell, but two rushing touchdowns from Carson Langevin in the third quarter helped bring the Wildcats back.
Tartan 47, Harding/Humboldt 12: Joe Varner returned the game's opening kickoff 79 yards for a score, and the Titans (4-5) didn't look back from there. Tartan built a 28-0 lead at the break as Jerror Borsay ran for two touchdowns.
Tartan will host Highland Park in the section semifinals on Saturday.
Highland Park 47, Como Park 28: Jonah Sadowski ran for three scores and threw for another to pace the offense for Highland Park (5-4). But it was Como Park (2-6) who took a 28-27 lead in the third quarter on the third touchdown pass of the game from Shawn Huberty. Two of those scoring strikes went to Jonas Tetevi.
But the Scots responded by scoring the game's final 20 points.
North St. Paul 30, Johnson 20: North St. Paul pulled the No. 6 seed over No. 3 seed upset as Elijah Adzimahe ran for a score and threw three touchdowns -- two to Duke King and one to John Jeanetta.
The Polars (4-5) will travel to Inver Grove Heights on Saturday for a section semifinal with Simley.
