It's not often that a defensive statistic raises the most eyebrows in a game where one offense puts up over 70 points.
But that was true at Tigerland Stadium Friday night, as A&M Consolidated's (6-0, 3-0) defense held the Kyle Lehman Lobos (0-7, 0-4) to -43 yards of offense in the first half and -7 total yards in the game en route to a 77-0 route of the visitors in District 12-5A-II play.
"I thought they were lights out," Consol head coach Brandon Schmidt said. "I thought our kids came out here and got after it and played hard. We're working on some new things schematically, and I thought our kids executed really well."
Mistakes by the Lobos early in the game played right into the Tigers' hands. Lehman muffed a pair of Consol punts in the first quarter, allowing Consol to take over in the red zone on both drives -- both leading to touchdowns for the Tigers.

Quarterback Will Hargett got things started early for Consol with a pass in the backfield to running back Ja'Marlon Morning, who scampered 25 yards to the end zone on the first play of the renewed drive to put the Tigers up 7-0.
Hargett split time under center with QB Jayden Mullenberg as the two combined to go 15-20 for 223 yards and six touchdowns through the air.
"There's things offensively that we need to clean up from an execution standpoint," Schmidt said. "But overall, any time you can get a district win, that's a big deal."
A second muffed punt in the first quarter led to a two-play scoring drive for Consol, both runs by RB Camron Roston who finished the deal with a 1-yard touchdown carry that doubled the Tigers' advantage.
The story was the same late in the first half, as the Tigers were able to add four touchdowns to their total in the span of six minutes -- aided by a pair of Lobo fumbles in the red zone that resulted in a couple of one-play touchdown drives.
A fumble on the kickoff with just under three minutes left in the first half gave Consol possession on the nine yard line, and Mooring took a short carry straight to the house for his second total touchdown of the game.
The Tigers reacquired possession after an ensuing first-play fumble from Lehman, the fourth lost fumble of the game for the Lobos. After playing a substantial part of the first half at wide receiver, Hargett moved back under center for a 22-yard touchdown pass to WR Jaxson Solomon for the latter's first catch of the game and a 49-0 lead for Consol heading into the half.
It was Consol's defense that took back the spotlight in the second half, thanks to a pair of pick sixes on back-to-back plays from scrimmage in the third quarter.
The Tigers' Tayten Freeman intercepted a lobbed pass from Lobo QB Gunner Winiecki right on the sideline at midfield, and found himself with nothing but blockers ahead of him as he scampered 50 yards home for a score.
On the ensuing Lobos drive, it was Consol's Devon Hawkins who found himself with wide-open running room on the same sideline as he hammered the nail into the coffin to put the Tigers' up 70-0 late in the third quarter.
"The defensive line did a great job getting pressure on the quarterback and forcing a bad throw," Schmidt said. "Our guys did a great job of just making plays."
Consol remains undefeated with the win and sits atop the district standings, but Schmidt says the job isn't done yet.
"We've got to keep getting better," Schmidt said. "There's still room for improvement. We've got to keep working. Got to keep getting better. Got to find those things we can improve on, find things that we can add that help us win games."
