Teen shot, killed outside Red Robin at Tampa mall: HCSO

TAMPA, Fla. - Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened outside the Citrus Park Town Center Mall in Tampa on Saturday night.

Just after 7:00 p.m., HCSO received a 911 call about shots fired outside the mall. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a boy with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officials say he was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died.

Detectives say they spoke to several witnesses in an effort to identify who was involved in the shooting. Two subjects were detained, according to Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer.

According to deputies, a group was eating when a fight broke out.

"I don't know if they knew each other. I knew that they were eating, and a fight broke out. I don't know exactly the nature of that. Our detectives are getting to the bottom of that," shared Maurer.

Investigators say the victim was shot outside the front entrance of Red Robin.

"This senseless act of violence not only robbed a family of their loved one but caused unnecessary fear and trauma to dozens of people who were just trying to enjoy their Saturday night at the mall," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our detectives are using every resource available to hold those responsible for this tragedy accountable."

The investigation is active and ongoing. Deputies say the name of the victim will be released after next of kin is notified.
