The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County recorded its largest daily increase since Oct. 5 Saturday, rising 1.8 cents to $4.38.
The increase was the first since Nov. 30 when the average price rose six-tenths of a cent, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped 17 times and was unchanged Dec. 2, Monday and Friday, decreasing 9 cents to its lowest amount since July 28, 2021 before Saturday's increase.
The average price is one-tenth of a cent more than one week ago but 7.8 cents less than one month ago and 31.5 cents lower than one year ago. It has dropped $2.114 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price also recorded its largest daily increase since Oct. 5, rising 2.4 cents to $4.311, one day after a run of 16 decreases in 17 days totaling 8.6 cents that dropped it to its lowest amount since July 5, 2021, ended with an increase of two-tenths of a cent.
The Orange County average price is 1.2 cents more than one week ago but 6.6 cents lower than one month ago and 23.7 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped $2.148 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The average price per kilowatt hour of electricity at public electric vehicle charging stations in California is 37.1 cents.
A five-day streak of increases to the national average price totaling 2.7 cents ended with a decrease of four-tenths of a cent to $3.046. It is 2.3 cents more than one week ago, but 1.7 cents less than one month ago and 7.4 cents lower than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.97 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
"We could be heading into a period of relative stability when it comes to pump prices," said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager. "Despite some reports to the contrary, the national average never fell below $3 this year, and it might not as a record 119 million people are forecast to travel this holiday season. And 107 million will go by car, which is a lot of fueling up."
