The program delivers grocery gift cards or food baskets just days before Christmas.

It's funded by cash donations and sponsors who shop for food, using their own funds to assemble their own baskets.

Residents of Belleville, including Thurlow Ward, may be eligible to receive help. The program also serves the area between Shannonville, the hamlet of Ameliasburg, and Whites Road.

"Help is needed because the demand is so great," coordinator Hazel Lloyst said.

The 2023 campaign had 1,353 registrations totalling 3,153 people, she said, adding that was similar to recent years.

Based on traffic at other local agencies, said Lloyst, "We expect more this year."
