City's first Taco Bell could create 36 jobs

Plans are in progress for a city centre to open its first Taco Bell restaurant which could create 36 jobs.

A planning application has been submitted on behalf of Taco Bell to Peterborough City Council for alterations to a retail unit at Queensgate Shopping centre.

The business specialising in Mexican-inspired food is seeking to combine two vacant units in the shopping centre to create a 20-seater restaurant and takeaway.

According to the planning statement, if approved the business would operate between 10:00 BST and 23:00 every day.

The units are located in a listed building within the shopping centre and overlook the Cathedral Square. Currently, a McDonald's restaurant is operating in an adjoining unit.

A new operation plant and extraction system is being proposed as part of the mixed-use restaurant.

Additionally, permission has been sought for advertisement boards and signage for the new business, including a halo-illuminated fascia board with the words "Taco Bell".

The applicant has also asked the authority for separate listed building consent to make the alterations for a new restaurant.

A decision on the plans is yet to be approved by city councillors.
