Freddie Freeman cemented his Hall of Fame résumé on Friday night with an epic walk-off grand slam for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
The New York Yankees had a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 10th inning when Freeman stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded. Instead of taking a pitch or two from Nestor Cortes, the lefty slugger decided to be aggressive from the jump. That ended up being a wise decision.
Cortes left a ball hanging over the plate right near Freeman's sweet spot. The All-Star first baseman immediately sent that pitch to the seats in right field to win Game 1.
"When you're 5 years old with your two older brothers and you're playing whiffle ball in the backyard, those are the scenarios you dream about -- two outs, bases loaded in a World Series game," Freeman said. "For it to actually happen, and get a home run and walk it off to give us a 1-0 lead, that's as good as it gets right there."
Freeman's wife, Chelsea, was fired up about his walk-off grand slam. She was able to give him a huge hug after the game came to an end.
Chelsea Freeman also shared a video of her husband's epic at-bat on Instagram along with this caption: "WALK OFF GRAND SLAM."
Freddie and Chelsea have been married since November 2014. They have three sons together - Charlie, Brandon and Maximus.
"He makes me smile every single day, he encourages me when I'm down, he still opens my car door, he's learned to buy me a card and flowers every birthday," Chelsea said. "I've watched him mature into the amazing man he is today. He is the first and only man I have ever loved."
If we had to guess, Chelsea Freeman will be in attendance for Game 2 of the World Series.
The Dodgers would love nothing more than to take a 2-0 series lead over the Yankees. In order to do that, they'll need star players like Freeman to keep making big-time plays when it matters most.
