The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health advised beachgoers Friday to avoid water activities at several beach locations due to water contamination.
The department issued warnings for the following beaches due to bacterial levels exceeding health standards:
-- Mothers Beach in Marina del Rey;
-- Santa Monica Pier, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier;
-- Inner and Outer Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, 100 yards from the lifeguard station; and
-- Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public access steps.
Warnings for Big Rock Beach and Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu have been lifted after water samples indicated safer quality levels within the state's standard.
Anyone inquiring about information about the beach conditions can access the 24-hour hotline for the county's beach closure at 800-525-5662 or visit publichealth.LACounty.gov/Beach/ to view a map of the impacted areas.
