New Report Names 'Fallback Option' After Red Sox Lose Out On Juan Soto

The Red Sox need to pivot with Juan Soto reportedly agreeing to join the Mets.

Boston reportedly offered Soto, the prize of MLB free agency, a 15-year deal worth $700 million. The 26-year-old slugger, however, received a jaw-dropping 15-year deal worth $765 million from Steve Cohen's Mets.

The Red Sox, though, still have options for improving their roster this offseason. And one player who continues to be linked to Boston is free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández.

"Hernández is expected to be a main fallback option for Boston but the Red Sox won't be alone," MassLive's Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam wrote Monday.

MLB Network's Mark Feinsand offered similar insight prior to Soto's reported agreement. Feinsand on Sunday afternoon reported Boston intended to pursue Hernández if Soto signed elsewhere.

Cotillo reported the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees also are believed to "be in big" for Hernández.
